i know a few forum members use spotify; whats your thought on Ogg Vorbis q5 (~160Kbit) for free users, and q9 (~320Kbit) for Premium ones?
Does the listener really need to pay the extra to gain acess to the premium account?

you also get no adverts and the ability to listen to your playlists offline.

I'm using the premium service, only since the great plug-in for Squeezebox was introduced, which makes it very easy to integrate it into my stereo and control it with iPeng on the iPod touch.

The 320 kb is more than adequate for background music or to discover new music, with serious listening I feel lossless (FLAC) is noticably better. I would rate the 320 kbs performance as roughly 75% of lossless, to give an idea of how listenable it is.

Once I receive my Dac I will look into spotify as am getting the wind of streaming music.will pop a few more questions here.

Got an invitation to join spotify so will be playing a few tracks via USB into the Chord dac and hopefully should sound good.

There's an article in the September Hi-Fi Choice mag about Spotify. Doesn't sound like they're much interested in offering a lossless stream:-
