I have had an Ipad for a few weeks now and I am generally happy with the purchase. I bought the Ipad as a silent replacement for the laptop I had in the living room. Basically for the living room what I wanted was something to control the Linn DS and a web browser for occasional, light use. I already used an Ipod touch as a control device for the Linn but was keen to use the Ipad as it would give more information on-screen at any one time.
The positives are:
1. The control software for the Linn DS is very good on the Ipad and certainly makes it easier/quicker to use than the old Ipod apps.
2. There are some very good apps out there (that don't cost anything!!). I can program my Sky HD system from the Ipad (unfortunatley Sky has not updated their app for the Ipad yet but I'm sure that will come).
3. Startup is instant, no waiting for the machine to start up.
4. It is silent, no fan, no hard disk.
The negatives:
1. The web browser does not support flash!! This is a pain!
2. The web browser does not support some of the scroll functions within the main screen properly - so for example if you are trying to reply to an item on this forum you don't get a scroll bar for the edit window.
3. You can not try the apps before you buy, this puts me off buying some applications.
4. The keyboard is not supported as well within the browser as it should be. You have to use a combination of keyboard and touching the screen.
So overall it has met the objective. There are certainly improvements that could be made.
